They Doubled Their A.R. Goal

By Gail Beyer

June 18, 2007

Mrs. Bunner’s third grade class had 10 students double their A.R. goals.  Bateman’s Trading Post gave each of the students a candy bar and Platte Valley National Bank awarded each of the students a new gold dollar coin.  These student’s worked very hard this semester to reach such a great goal.  A.R. is Accelerated Reader.  Students in grades 1-9 take a test each year to determine how many points they will need to obtain each semester.  A list is posted on the web-site of acceptable A.R. books the students can read.  After reading their selection they take a quiz on the computer and it is graded.  Depending on the points the book is worth and the grade of the quiz the students receive points toward their goal.  Some teachers count A.R. as part of their reading grade as well.
