Kindergarten Classes Observe Bird Banding

On Friday, September 28, Mrs. Sestak’s and Mrs. Janicek’s Kindergarten classes traveled to the Wildcat Hills to learn about bird banding and migration. The students observed many examples of wildlife evidence. They watched a bird get banded and weighed and then it was freed and it flew away. Kindergarteners went on a scavenger hunt and found lots of animals and plants. They got to use science tools such as microscopes, tongs, and strainers and make animal tracks in the sand. Live bees were fun to watch within the glass hive. Students hiked in the hills and saw animal tracks, wildflowers, and a young bullsnake. They also played a game where they learned more about birds. The entire program was awesome and all the kindergarteners had fun and learned a lot from beginning to end.
After the visit to the Wildcat Hills Nature Center everyone traveled to a park in Gering and ate their lunches and played on all the neat playground equipment. The students were very excited to tell all about their trip.
