Bridgeport Schools celebrate Veteran’s Day

by Katie V

November 06, 2007

This year Bridgeport Elementary is learning about Veteran’s Day. The K-12 is preparing to welcome several Veterans at the annual Veteran’s Remembrance Day. This year’s theme for the elementary is Proud to be an American. There is a ten member committee that is organizing the celebration this year.  Elementary students are learning about citizenship and the U.S. symbols and what they represent and where they originated from. They also are going to display thank you cards they made for the veterans in the multi-purpose room. The display will also contain trunk shows for each era. Mr. Johnson’s history class will also be interviewing and taping World War II veterans and the tapes will be shown along with other displays. Dinner will be served by the sixth graders and for entertainment the Bridgeport High School band and choir will perform.  The K-12 program in the auditorium, with possible speaker Senator Erdman for the recognition of veterans, will be from 12:50P.M. to 1:20P.M. Last year there were a total of one-hundred and fifty veterans that attended. We invite the public to come and share this special day with us to honor our veterans.
