All-State Choir: a musical memory

Most high school students moan and groan at the thought of waking up at the crack of dawn and sitting on a bus for six hours, but nothing could deter these two particular students. Leaving before the sun had even peaked above the horizon on Thursday, November 15, Angela W and Titus K were simply giddy about making the long trip to Lincoln to participate in the Nebraska Music Educators Association All-State Chorus. The weekend started off with a bang, as a three hour practice began as soon as they arrived. Betsy Cook-Webber from the University of Houston whipped the 440 singers into shape immediately. Friday consisted of another long grueling day with a seven hour practice. Any time the choir members weren’t practicing they were able to listen to collegiate choirs from the region. By Saturday, excitement filled the air as the students prepared for their final concert in the Lied Center for Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska Lincoln campus. “All-State Choir was a blast. I’m thrilled that I was able to experience this during my last year of high school. The highlight of the trip was performing for a sold out crowd at the Lied Center,” Titus K commented. “Sitting down in practice and hearing everyone sing for the first time was the coolest thing that I have ever heard. The mixture of voices being so blended was something that I’m not used to. It was an experience I will never forget,” stated Angela W. This was the first time in four years that Bridgeport has had choir members participate in All-State Choir. Congratulations Angela and Titus!
