Bridgeport boys defeat Bayard Tigers once again

Friday night the Bridgeport Bulldogs traveled the short distance
to Bayard for a thrilling night of basketball!
The Tigers got the tip off and scored the first two shots to take a
0-4 lead. Destry S made a pass to Hardan K to score a bucket for a
2-4 score before Cory F snuck up and scored a 2-pointer, helping
the Bulldogs pull closer, 4-9 after a couple of Bayard baskets.
Jase D made a drive to the basket bringing the Bulldog score up
again to, 6-9. In the last 35 seconds Cory F went in strong for
last shot making it 8-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Starting out the second quarter out strong, Destry S banked a
3-pointer bringing the score to 11-13. After a B score, Cory F took
control. He drove for a 2-pointer, building the score 13-16, then
he scored again at 5:39 as Bridgeport pulled within one at 15-16. F
kept the momentum high by scoring two more times giving the
Bulldogs a 17-16 lead at 4:41 left for the 2nd quarter then at 3:23
taking the score to 19-16. Trevor Z stepped up by scoring a bucket
giving Bridgeport a 21-18 advantage. After a couple of Bayard
scores, Jase D retaliated with a 2-pointer with just 2 seconds left
bring the half time score to 23-23.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs and Tigers came back ready for
more action. Bayard opened the 2nd half with a 3-pointer, followed
by Destry S with two points, Cory F with two points. Bryant M for 2
free throws followed by a 2-pointer. Destry S nailed two free
throws. Later in the game Bridgeport found itself down by 2 points,
38-40.
Although down by 2-points, the Bulldogs did not give up and knew
they had to keep their heads in the game. The Bulldogs went on a
long scoring run, Destry S had an assist to Trevor Z for a strong
2-points for yet again another tie, 40-40. Steven T connected with
Destry S who banked a 3-pointer helping the Bulldogs takes the lead
43-40, at 7:15. Trevor Z turned around an added 2 points to make
the score 45-40. Jase D went up for a rebound and put in another
basket, 47-40. Bayard hit a free throw to draw within six, but the
Bulldogs did not let that break them. Hardan K put in a 3-pointer
with an assist from Bryce D, 50-41. For Bayard, Kevin F and Nick K,
trying to make their score ever higher, put up back to back 3-
pointers making the score, 50-47 for a fast comeback. With a foul
from Alex B, Jase D converted one free throw out of two, 51-47
before Bayard hit a couple of free throws to draw within two at
51-49. Later Steven T hit a free throw to bring the lead to 54-50,
followed Cory F bringing in another free throw, 55-50.
“Cory had a good game, I knew it was coming,” stated Coach Baxter.
Final scores of the night include: Cory F-19, Destry S- 12, Jase
D-10, Trevor Z-8, Hardan K and Steven T with 5-points. The Bulldog
JV scores of the night: Junior T 14, Jake A 10, Pierce F and Steven
T with 5, and Mike B, Nick R, and Andy P with 4 points. The
Bulldogs next game is this Friday night in Hemingford, JV Girls
start out at 2:30 followed by JV boys, and girls varsity is
scheduled for 5:45 and the boys at 7:30.
