The Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs traveled to Yoder, Wyoming to take on the Southeast Cyclones on Friday night, Jan. 18th and ended with a win 39-36 to increase their record to 11-1.
Junior Renae J started the Bulldogs off by knocking down two free-throws while Senior Natalie H added a bank shot to up the score 4-0. Southeast fought back and scored two points, but the Bulldogs never stopped fighting as Senior Ashley V got a steal and scored a lay-up, and sophomore Courtney L added another two to up the score 8-2 with 3:48 left in the first quarter. Southeast grabbed an offensive rebound and made an easy two, but Bridgeport ran off to a five-point run on the Cyclones, with sophomore Charlee W's steal and Jacobson’s offensive rebound, and Laux’s easy two that took the end of the quarter with Bridgeport leading 13-4.
Southeast, however, did not give up as they came out with a seven-point run on the Bulldogs. Jacobson sank a free throw to get the Ladies on the ball again. After the Cyclones make of a free throw sophomore Simonne S scored an easy two making the score 16-12 with 1:18 left in the 2nd quarter. The Cyclones made two points with 31 seconds left on the clock before halftime, but the Bulldogs were not finished for Jacobson scored an easy two and Laux sank one free throw ending the half with a score of 19-14.
After halftime, the Southeast girls came out and sank three free throws after a foul occurred behind the 3-point line, making the score 19-17. Bridgeport extended the lead to 23-17 with the baskets from Wallesen and Laux. The Cyclones scored once more but after every one of their baskets the Lady Bulldogs had at least four points before Southeast scored again. Vergil and Laux added a bucket increasing the lead to 27-19. After a Cyclone basket the Lady Bulldogs went on another run of five points with a basket from Hadden, a pair of throws from Jacobson and one free throw from junior Molly S. Southeast scored once more but Steer ended the quarter with two more free throws making the score 34-23.
Going into the fourth quarter, Southeast had an offensive rebound and lay-up, but Hadden added two buckets bringing the score to 38-25 with 4:28. Southeast then went on a 11-0 run with Bulldog chances of free throws in between, making the score 38-36. Bulldogs never gave up even though free throws were not falling. But with Wallesen’s single free throw with 1:04 left all Bulldogs could do was play good solid defense, as they did ending the game 39-36. Laux led the Ladies with 10 points as Hadden followed with 8 points. Wallesen and Jacobson each had 6, Vergil with 4, Steer with 3, and Spurgeon with 2 points.
