Varsity Boys take an excruciating loss to the Bayard Tigers

On Friday night the gym was packed with the colors purple and black. There was absolutely no open spaces to sit in the over packed gymnasium as our Bridgeport Bulldogs took on the rivalry team: the Bayard Tigers. The entire game was a true nail biter. Ongoing scoring between both teams was a key sight in all four quarters. In the end the Bulldogs lost only by one point, leaving the scoreboard to read 51-52.
In the first quarter, Bayard scored the first bucket with 7:12 on the clock. Bridgeport fouled and put Bayard to the free throw line making the score 3-0. That was quickly changed when Bryce D hit a 3 pointer with 5:15 left on the clock. Jase D followed Decora and nailed another 3 pointer with 4:36 making the score 6-5. Cory F pushed the Bulldogs up 11-7 with 3:16 on the clock. Destry S hit a 3 pointer with 3 seconds left in the 1st quarter giving the Bulldogs a 14-9 lead.
In the beginning of the 2nd quarter Sterkel made a bucket, followed by Faessler and then immediately Faessler was fouled and forced at the free throw line giving the Bulldogs a 19-14 lead with 4:40 left to play. Dean sunk both of his free throw points after being fouled with 2:12 left in the 2nd quarter. The score going into half-time was 21-17.
In the opening 3rd quarter, Destry S had made a basket boosting the lead to 23-17. Until Bayard starting hitting back to back shots putting the Tigers ahead 24-23 with 5:49 in the game. Sterkel made another shot and brought the Bulldogs ahead by just one point, 25-24. Jase D scored with 4:05 in the game making the score tied at 27-27. Dean hit two 3 pointers giving the Bulldogs the lead 35-31 with 1:24. Hardan K scored giving the Bulldogs the lead 37-33 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the final quarter the Bulldogs put up a strong effort, but fell short. Destry S knocked down a 3 pointer with 5:04 left on the clock and then made a free throw after being fouled, pushing the score to a 41-38 lead. Cory F was fouled and sent to the free throw line and sinking both of his shots the score was 43-40 with 4:38 left to play. Bayard managed to tie up the game at 45-45 with 3:30 on the scoreboard. Bayard continued to score and with 1:37 left to play Bayard pulled ahead with the lead 49-46. Cory F made it 48-50 with 1:09 in the game. The Bulldogs thought it was a sure win when Jase D nailed a 3 pointer with 43 seconds left to play making the score 51-50. The Tigers brought the ball down the court and made an open basket with 6 seconds left on the clock making the final score 52-51.
The Bulldogs first round into the Western Trails Conference is against Hemingford on Thursday, January 31st. Good Luck Bulldogs!
