The BHS Lady Bulldogs went into action on Friday for the Bulldogs first game after receiving a bye for Thursday’s first round.
The Bulldogs opened up the second round going up against the Bayard Tigers. Courtney L opened the first quarter with a two pointer and a one free throw foul shot making the score 3-0. The Bulldogs kept the lead through the first quarter making the score 10-8. In the second quarter the Tigers made their comeback with a running score brought the half time score 18-17, with the Bulldogs up by one point making this a very exciting game. After coming back from a half time break the Bulldogs knew that they had to bring the Tigers prowl to a halt. The Bulldogs went on a six-point run in the beginning of the third quarter before the Tigers could even get a chance at a basket only getting the chance to bring in only five points for the third quarter, while the Bulldogs added 13 to their half time total, making the third quarter score 31-22. With the Bulldogs bringing down the first three quarters, they were confident to capture the last remaining quarter; which they did! The Bulldogs took the opener with a 5-point run when the Tigers stopped it with a basket, but that didn’t stop the Lady Bulldogs from getting back. In the end of the fourth quarter the Bulldogs exploded 15 points while Tigers shot up 13 points making the final score, Bulldogs 46, Tigers 35, for the second round of the tournament.
Courtney L had 11 points, followed by Ti W and Renae J with nine each, Ashley V and Manda S with five each, Natalie H with four, and Simonne S with three.
After a Friday night thriller, the Lady Bulldogs returned for the finals game against the Lady Longhorns. The Longhorns opened up the first quarter with a 6-0 lead while the Bulldogs brought down their 3 points with a 3-pointer from Ashley V, ending the first quarter score, 3-6. Coming in the second quarter the Bulldogs knew that they would have to fight hard to come back in it. The Bulldogs opened the second quarter with a 5 point run, followed by a 6 point run from the Longhorns, another 4 point run from the Bulldogs, and another 5 points from the Longhorns bringing the score 12-17, Longhorns. Starting into the third quarter both teams kept up their defense and shut each other down with the Longhorns bringing in 5 points and the Bulldogs brought up 7 while making the score 19-22, Longhorns. Bringing down the last quarter of the evening, the Longhorns brought up the first basket, followed by a shot by Courtney L, but that didn’t stop the Longhorns from keeping up their game, they came back with a 3-pointer. Both teams played very strong throughout the fourth quarter battling it out. Both the Longhorns and the Bulldogs brought up ten points for the final quarter, making the score 29-32. The Bulldogs took Runners-up in the 2008 Western Trails Conference Tournament. Laux led the team in scoring with 11 points, followed by Charlee W with six, Vergil with five, Jacobson with three, and Steer and Hadden with two each. The Bulldogs next game is this Friday at Gordon-Rushville. Good Luck Bulldogs!!!
