Bridgeport Football Takes Down Bayard

by Molly S

September 30, 2008

“It was an exiting Homecoming game this past Friday as our young men found a way to win their first game of the season. Our offensive line did a fairly good job the 1st half and we gained the lead on a Collin D. two yard run and Taylor C.’s extra point kick. Half time score resulted with Bulldogs lead 7-0. Bryce D. and Justin A. really ran through on this drive. They will work this week at blocking technique and staying with our blocks longer at all offensive positions. We will get this problem solved prior to playing Morrill. This we must do to become a consistent offense. Seven points won’t win too many games. Our physical defensive effort was very good with players pursuing the ball well. Our assignment, discipline, and mental approach will also improve.

Our defensive-end pressure from Josh H. and Justin A. was very good from the end spots and Taylor C. and Caleb W. spent a lot of time in Bayard’s backfield.  In the fourth quarter, Chance H. intercepted a pass with around 1:26 remaining. Bayard got the ball back but our defensive line surge of Colby S., Mike B., Josh H., Daniel W., and Justin A. created a fumble which Caleb W. pounced on to preserve the win with about 13 seconds remaining. They made their own breaks and Bridgeport came out on top 7-6”

“This was a fun game to watch on both sides of the ball and I felt the Bayard kids played extremely hard as they worked to overcome a couple of injuries to key players. Both teams kept this rivalry in perspective. Quality sportsmanship and toughness were demonstrated throughout the game.  We travel to Morrill this Friday and we will have our hands full. Morrill previously beat Dundy County 26-14. This should be a great challenge to test ourselves! Hope to see you all there again!”
