As part of their Nebraska History unit, the fourth grade students studied the state symbols. Square dancing is Nebraska's state dance. Because of this, the two fourth grade classes took time out from the books to get a "hands on" lesson of square dancing. Lucky Kochenower, from Scottsbluff, came down to the school and taught the students 5 basic moves of square dancing. Modern American square dancing consists of 4 couples or 8 people in a square. The caller executes the moves. There are a total of 75 moves in square dancing. The students had a good time learning a little bit of Nebraska history!
